Onsen Water Types and Healing Properties
Our ryokan offers two distinct bicarbonate springs, known for their remarkable skin benefits. One is our pure, naturally flowing spring, active since the inn’s founding, while the other is a shared spring rich in sodium and sulfate. These waters are famous for enhancing skin softness and radiance, making them highly favored by women and those seeking relief from skin concerns.

Ohnuma Spring
Our signature spring, Ohnuma no Yu, is a rare pure bicarbonate spring with over 85% bicarbonate ions and sodium ions, making it one of the few of its kind in Japan. With a neutral pH of 7.0, it is gentle on the skin and provides a smooth, soft bathing experience. This spring has a distinctive woody aroma, said to come from ancient plant fossils, offering relaxation for both body and mind. Rich in metasilicic acid (273.2 mg), known for promoting healthy, radiant skin, it’s a popular choice among guests seeking to rejuvenate and enhance their skin’s natural beauty. This spring is used in the baths Tennyo-buro, Akari no Yu, In no Yu, and Yo no Yu.
Karatake Spring
The Karatake no Yu, a sodium bicarbonate and chloride spring, is a shared source used by several inns in the Higashi-Naruko Onsen area. Clear in color with a mild salt content, it offers a soft yet invigorating soak, leaving the body feeling light and refreshed. Like our private source, this spring softens the skin’s surface and helps to remove impurities, but the added salt provides an extra benefit: it coats the skin, preserving heat and enhancing the post-bath warming effect. With a slightly alkaline pH of 7.4, it's ideal for those seeking to improve skin health. This spring is featured in Yakushi Sennin-buro, Ishiwari no Yu, and the private outdoor bath Mori no Yu.
